LEICESTER LIKELY TO BE RELEGATED - OWEN

The former Liverpool forward, Michael Owen, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2001, receives more than his fair share of stick on social media as a result of his opinion concerning the defending champions of England Premier League, but he never shies away from his point of view. If he has got what to say, regardless of the effect it might have on his popularity, he will say it, and fair play to him for that.

The 36-year-old came out back in February with a comment about Leicester City, who were flying high in the Premier League table on their journey to one of the most remarkable sporting triumphs in history of football.

The Foxes were unstoppable. Courtesy of Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, N’Golo Kante and the likes. But Owen put a spanner in the works by claiming he could see Leicester heading to relegation at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

"Leicester conceivably could go down even to relegation level next year,” he said on BT Sport, much to the amazement of viewers.

“They could win the league and still be in a relegation fight next year. It lies on which way they go. They could go and invest all of their Champions League money in order to maintain being a top club for years to come.

"Or they bank the money, maybe lose their players to top clubs. Their team is not a Manchester United squad or a Chelsea squad, and they are having an incredibly unbelievable season. I sincerely hope they go on and win it but they could be found dragging with relegation teams next year.”

Claudio Ranieri’s men, who lost Kante to Chelsea in the summer, have roughly gathered a disappointing 12 league-points so far this session, leaving them in 14th place, with demand for tickets matching their fall from the top of the table according to the guys at www.livefootballtickets.com.

Following Sunday afternoon’s 2-1 home defeat to West Brom at the King Power Stadium, Leicester are now just two points above the relegation zone.
