Owen confident of finding new club

The 89 time England international has stated he is confident of finding a new employer following his release from Manchester United.

The 32 year old had a mixed time during his three years at Old Trafford, and although he enjoyed some success in his first season at the club, scoring 9 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions, over the following two seasons fell down the pecking order after facing competition from the likes of Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck, featuring only intermittently.

Nevertheless, the former Ballon D’Or winner has stated he is not willing to consider a move down the divisions, as he still fully believes he has the ability to perform at the highest level.

"Not being disrespectful when I say I wouldn't play in the Championship. Always said I wouldn't drop down the leagues like some have done,” said the player via Twitter.
"After playing for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle, Man Utd and England, I don't think I would enjoy that football."

“I know I can still bang them in at the top level. I proved that nearly every time I played for Manchester United. At 32, still got a few years in me.”

A number of Premier League clubs have been linked with the player, most notably Stoke City, though questions have been raised about how the forward, known as a goal poacher with excellent touch and vision, will fit into the Potters’ famously physical long-ball game.

No deal has yet to be finalised, but Owen has recently revealed on the social networking site that a move could be on the horizon.

“Getting closer to finding a new club. Had a good deal of interest but just need to pick right! Can't wait to get going again.”

Should he find a new team, Owen will be hopeful he can avoid the injury problems which have at times dogged his career and limited his first team opportunities and seal a regular starting spot in the Premier League.
